EXTREMELY EARLY, Mid-19th CENTURY Antique Antebellum Quilt From Massachusetts Estate, Unusual Design

DESCRIPTION: A nice, particularly early, antique quilt. Mid-1800s OR EARLIER. One of the earliest quilts in my collection, and one you will not often seen. Either was used as a quilt or a quilted bedspread. As shown in the scans, the flowered material on the outside only goes around 3 sides, (not present at the head of the bed), again typical of a very early, pre-Civil War quilt.

Flowered material appears to be silk, and the green border is cotton. Fabrics are both very early. Green color is a bit different than the scans, and it is actually a pleasing, pretty shade of the color. Machine sewn, but stitches are very large. Quilting was done by hand. Quilting has a nice,\"simple\", early look to it.

In good condition overall. Some wear/splitting to the flowered silk material, as is typical of silk of this age. Minor age stains on the reverse. I have notlaundered this and prefer to keep it just as it came from the old house. This might help with the staining mentioned, and obviously, the buyer can wash if desired. A nice looking quilt for display or decoration, ESPECIALLY WITH ANY EARLY DECORATING OR FOR BACKGROUND FOR A PERIOD COLLECTION. Also, perfect for use on a bed, used as a copy pattern for a new one, or even to provide antique material for crafts or cut-up work/projects. In any event, a nice, particularly early antique quilt.

Measures approximately 73\" x 65\". THIS HAS BEEN PART OF MY PERSONAL COLLECTION AND CAME OUT OF AMASSACHUSETTS ESTATE. A NICE EARLY QUILT !!
