For sale is this incredibly rare and vintage American made brass flame safety lamp. It was made by the American Safety Lamp & Mine Supply Company out of Scranton Pennsylvania in the heart of the anthracite coal country. It is very well made, a survivor, and all parts are present, even the vintage wick. The top brass covering is not tied down and a smallnpiece of metal that would tie it down isnthe only piece missing. The Pyrex glass is broke on both sides of the lamp, but is still relatively intact, I have no idea where you will find a replacement, the mesh wire has a hole on the one top side exterior which is photographed, it appears that most of the wire mesh has been discolored, but some of it you can still see through. I would caution anyone from bringing this into a mine obviously because it has to be restored before being properly used. You just do not see the Scranton flame lamps come to market often. This would be one of the first generation flame safety lamps out there. This is very well made and extremely heavy. It appears to be made of solid brass with the exception of the top hook. It unscrews perfectly, and the bottom portion seriously looks nearly mint - some obvious patina on the very bottom, but I cannot believe how well the bottom portion looks when unscrewed. The bottom pin piece if you will, that is almost a hook, still moves left to right around the wick, I did not try to get it to move vertical for fear of breaking it. The \"SCRANTON, PA. American Safety Lamp and Mine Supply Company Scranton PA\" etching on the lamp itself is cut in half and you can only make out the bottom half of the text, this was a manufacturing error. Please feel free to message me with any questions, I found this at an old estate in the heart of anthracite country. For all I know, the glass could have been broken in an anthracite mine back in the day. $5 start offer. If only this lamp could talk about where it has been! Thanks for looking!
