When I spotted this beautiful little case I felt sure that it would be of Russian origin because of the style and design -but in fact it was made in Germany, as you can see.

There is an inscription inside the front coverdating it to 1905, presumably it was given as a love token.

It features a range of little applied decorations, mostly in gold although there is a small enamelled silver Toucan set amongst themon the rear (see photo). Also, one of the little gold plaques appears to have a tiny diamond attached to it. I have pictured and indicated this clearly so that you can make a judgement.

The lid is sprung so that it can be opened with one hand and the originalelastic silver cigarette retainer is still present inside the case.

Only small, the case measures 3.25\" tall by 2.25\" wide and it is about 7mm deep at the widest point (measured across the centre of the top edge).

It weighs2.67 imperial ounces which is 2.43 troy ounces or75.8 grams. I cannot separate the gold and silver weights for obvious reasons.

A real eye-catcher, the case has a few of the typical light / faint scuffs and scratches that silver objects such as these always attract, use as you might expect but nothing really nasty or serious. One of the original gold additions is missing from the front cover (bottom right)as you can see, there are just two little holes where it once was. There is a little bit of enamel damage on the silver Toucan aroundit\'s eye and onit\'s tailalthough this is not immediately obvious. There are no particular dents, dings or misshapes anywhereto report as far as I can tell. The spring loaded case closes firmly with a click and opens easily when the little jewelled clasp is depressed. A sustained polish will further restore former glory.

I often get asked if modern king size cigarettes fit these old cases and the answer is no - they are too big. These days the cases are more often used for keeping hand rolled cigarettes, or \"roll-ups\" and they are also used by people for carrying small business cards, tablets, condoms etc.

Returns

Returns are accepted only if the item is agreed to be significantly different than described. Buyer pays the return shipping costs.
