A fine large rare old Northwest Coast Tsimshian Indian cedar totem pole dating from the early 1900\'s. The totem is large rare early work attributed to famous Casper Mather (1877-1972)The totem features some great unusual and rare imagery featuring a separately carved otter lying on its back at the top ( the otter resembles a food feast dish) which is attached via an old screw, followed by an Oyster catcher bird, salmon bent over and a bear at the base. The imagery is really quite fantastic especially the otter on the top. Nice large size measuring 24\" tall with a cedar base measuring 7\" x 7\" and the otter itself measuring 9\"L x 5\"wide. Painted in great old and original bright pigments of red, green, black and yellow. The totem is in very good condition for its age with no losses or repairs noted, just a nice aged patina and normal wear associated with great age and careful handling. Very rare to see this type of imagery depicted on model totem poles. Definitely one of the finest poles by this artist I have ever seen. The totem makes an impressive display itemand a fine addition to anyone\'s collection. Please add $15 for careful shipping and insurance (USA).
