A fine old Northwest Coast Nootka Salish hand carved and painted cedar model totem dating from the early to mid 1900\'s. The totem features expressive well carved imagery featuring a Thunderbird with a seated human, followed by a bear who holds a salmon. Painted in great old and original pigments of red, green and black. The totem is signed to the reverse \"Howard Williams Squamish Indian Carver North Vancouver BC Canada to the back of the wings. The Squamish were a Salish speaking tribe who were artistically influenced by both their neighbors the Kwakiutl and Nuu-chah-nulth through intermarriage and exchange . The totem stands a respectable 15\" tall with a 12\" wingspan and is very good original condition with some paint wear and nice aged patina associated with age and handling. The totem once would have had a base , but does stand un-supported as is.The totem makes an impressive display itemand a fine addition to anyone\'s collection.
