A fine old Northwest Coast Kwakiutl Salish hand carved and painted cedar model totem dating from the early to mid 1900\'s. The totem is attributed to an early work of Alex Julian a fine old Squamish Carver who was active 1930-1980 period and worked both in a traditional Squamish and Kwakiutl styles. His earlier work tends to be more sculptural and in the traditional Kwakiutl style which this totem shows well. The totem features a Thunderbird and a bear eating a seal painted in great old traditional pigments of red, black and green. The totem stands 11 1/2\" tall x 3\"x 3\"and once would have had small wings on the top creature that have been lost, still a great example of this highly desirable carvers work .
