FINE RARE OLD NORTHWEST COAST TLINGIT TSIMSHIAN SHAMAN FIGURE TOTEM C1910:

A fine rare early Northwest Coast Tlingit or Tsimshian hand carved and painted shaman figure dating from the very early 1900\'s. Depicted is a walking shaman figure complete with his painted hide skirt with a crest painted on the front. Carved from red cedar the shaman displays a grimacing face with hands drawn across his chest. Great old and original pigments.These figures were made as healing figures by the shaman and left in the presence of sick patient to aid in healing. Rare items and rarely seen complete with a hide dance apron. The figure stands 12 1/4\" tall x 3 3/4\"w x 3 1/3\"deep and is in very good condition for its age with original pigments and nice patina from age and handling, the apron is now fastened with line as the original ties have been lost. Very rare hard to find carving! The shaman makes an impressive display itemand a fine addition to anyone\'s collection.
