FRENCH EMPIRE GILT BRONZE DORE CLOCK 19th CENTURY MANTEL PENDULE KAMINUHR:

This is a large, beautiful French Empire gilt bronze clock featuring two children reading while sitting in front of a bookcase. These charming, curly-haired children are wearing short chitons and are barefoot. The boy at the left holds the book and follows the text with his finger. The girl at the right appears to be reading aloud.

The porcelain dial is signed Sezille Palais Royal. The gilding on the clock is beautiful, but not perfect. Upon close inspection, it can be seen there is some wear to the gilding. At a normal viewing distance, the gilding looks very good. Please see the close-up photographs.

The clock runs and strikes well, but I cannot guarantee that this will be the case after shipping. It may need to be adjusted and/or oiled. Since the pendulum is suspended by a spring rather than a silk thread, the movement may have been modified at a later date to improve its accuracy.
