I defy anyone to find a more detailed and unblemished mid-19th century signed cast ofP.J. Mene\'siconic \"Jiji and Gisella!!\"

Other than his \"L\' Accolade\" this model of Mene\'s is his mostrecognized sculpture and remains one of his most highly regarded creations. The original plaster of this grouping was exhibited in 1848 at the French Salon. There have been many later castings,copies and reproductionsof this duo...but none retain the detail and quality of this authentic lifetime mid-19th century cast. These two pups measure just over 6.25 inches in height. They are secured to the detailed base underneath by bronze (? brass)nuts...which further assures a mid-century date of creation...as later casts were secured by iron nuts...or simply welded to the base. The quality and surface detailon this sculpture are second to none! Mene was a contemporary of Barye, Moigniez, Bonheur, Delabrierre, Gardet. Fremiet and Fratin. His equestrian andcanine bronzes are considered to be among the very best of the Animalier genre!
