Fabulous Antique French printed fabric 19thcentury, amazing flowers and foliage.

This absolutely beautiful fabric had been made intothe skirt of a fancy dress costume and then abandoned into a trunk in theattic. The upper part of the costume was made from paper and in tatters, theskirt was intact and here it is. There are four panels joined together here, Ihave removed the stitching that gathered it up and taken the pins from one seamto open the whole piece. On a background of pale jade/grey green are large anddelicious flowers in bright and muted shades of yellow, red, lilac and blue.Leaves and stems are in browns and greys. The floral styles are veryLiberty/Art Nouveau so I believe it dates from around 1870, which matches withthe other items I bought at this attic sale.

The four pieces are joined together; each has beencut to shape so I have measured them at their narrowest width. The seams aremachine stitched, easily unpicked. No marks, stains or damage. Each piece is:minimum 34 inches wide x 28 inches deep. (87 x 72 cm) So the whole width is over 348 cm.

The pattern is stunning! There is no fading. This is medium weightcotton cretonne.
