These fabulous bookends have been displayed on my enclosed glass bookcase shelf since I purchased them. They receive admiration and delight with each person who encounters them. They are stunning and they are in excellent condition!

These Horse Head Bookends are by Takahashi which are no longer sold in this country. Takahashi only used a paper sticker to mark the items and they are still present on these bookends. While they were originally sold as bookends they are hollow & light weight. They would be a beautiful addition to any collection. Made in Japan for the San Francisco importer Takahashi, these bookends date to the 1980s at the latest. An enchanting set, the fairytale horses work with every decor, from classic contemporary and cottage chic to rustic, even kid\'s rooms and no-decor spaces.

Made of ceramic, these are stylish bookshelf eye candy are finished in a handsome crackle glaze finish. The top of the base they are standing on is also done in a crackle effect, but its surface is textured, giving it a more granular look and feel. Beneath its pebbly cover, the rest of the base is a rich brown smooth finish with grooved accent lines in gold. The bottom of each piece is covered with a nifty felt-like material that lifts at one end to reveal an opening with a fitted plastic cap, a design Takahashi incorporated into its bookends to allow for filling with sand for weighting. Depending on the size and heft of the tomes to be upheld, the bookends may or may not require filling. These have never been filled with anything because they are so pretty I only used them as decorative pieces.
