DescriptionFine mid 19th century oil on relined canvas of figures by Rydale in the Lake District by W Pettit George fl 1852-1869. Signed W P George and dated 1859 - see photo. The sense of light and space has been handled in a masterly way. Measuring just over 15 1/2 inches by 11 inches and 19 inches by 14 1/2 inches in its good swept gilt frame. Craquleur commensurate with age and minor retouching. there is a restorers label verso.
George exhibited 9 times at Suffolk Street and also at The Royal Academy and British Insitute. he lived in the Lake district in Grasmere
