Fine Antique Victorian Hand Carved Hardstone Chalcedony Cameo of Greek Goddess, c 1890. Mount is solid 15k Yellow Gold. Carving is artistically done in fine detail. The Chalcedony is a wonderfulgrey lavender shade, depending on the light -- mostly grey I would say but as the light catches the stone the lavender tone is lovely against white carving. Carving is done from 1 piece of the hardstone (undercarving is visible), with the upper white layer used to carve the Greek Goddess in lovely high relief.Brooch has original gold pin and c-clasp both in perfect working order. There is a gold loop at top of cameo where a bale can be added if one desires to wear as a pendant! Brooch measures 1 1/2 x 1 1/4\". There is a finehairline in the hardstonevisible under loupe magnification that runs through her nose up to the hairline-- not easily visible to the naked eye. In spite of this- a beautiful antique cameo.
