At this time, Wurtemberg wasalready a major metalworking industrial area. By 1881 Daniel Straub had retired as director of the firm and was succeeded by Carl Haegele, formerly of A.Ritter & Co., in 1883 they employed over five hundred workers. In 1889 they purchased the firm of Klumpp & Co., whose specialty was the production of electrotype bronze statues and busts with copper-deposited coating. By 1900 WMF was a world leader in industrial metalwork production with shops and showrooms all over Europe. Their firm produced classic Biedermeier and Rococo styles and very popular Jugendstil / Art Nouveau designs and new twentieth-century German designs. In 1900 they employed 3500 workers and operated factories in several German and European cities.
