Fine C18th Antique Persian Sugar Salt Axe Adze Islamic Art Old Knife Kurd Arabic:
$343.49

An extremely nice Persian sugar axe.

I am told its origin is persian, but from nomadic tribes that were often kurds as well. The axe was used to chop up sugar and salt which at the time (late 18th, early 19th century) were sold in blocks. At the bazaar, they would chop the blocks into smaller parts for selling by weight.

It is made from cast brass insert with drawl like glass and ceramic beads in turquoise, red and blue the finials are detachable by screwing in and out.  I believe one of the peacocks has a glass bead missing from its eye as shown in the photographs, this could easily be replaced but I am selling in original condition.  The blade is made from sharpened steel.
