Offered here is a charming antique Victorian English repousse sterling silver hair tidy or hair receiver.

I haven\'t fully researched this piece to determine the maker but have dated it to 1899 - 1900 and determined that it assayed in the Chester office in Cheshire. This piece is hallmarked as shown in the photos.

Although from the late Victorian period, it shows Art Nouveau influences and is just stunning.

You\'ll be very pleased with this amazing and hard to find old piece.

This is sterling, .925 silver.

The lid is substantial and weighs approximately 59 grams.

It\'s 3\" tall and 2 3/4 - 3\" in diameter.

It\'s in very good condition but does show minor signs of wear including small surface scratches to the silver.

There are no chips, cracks, repairs or issues with the glass.

We never clean or polish our old silver and this piece is a just a little darkened with a beautiful, mellow and even patina.

Repoussé or repoussage is a metalworking technique in which a malleable metal is ornamented or shaped by hammering from the reverse side to create a raised design in low relief.
