The size of Fukusa: 24 7/8\" wide x 28 1/47\" long. This is very fine Japanese Fukusa Tapestry with Okina and Ouna (Takasago) design done with fine silk tapestry works. It has the design of Okina (old man ) and Ouna (old lady) with beautifully painted Pine tree and landscape with cranes, rising sun and beach. The workmanship is superb. Fukusa was used for presenting the wedding gifts and other. This particular Fukusa is used for the wedding because the Okina and Ouna is long lasting marriage symbol. So as Matsu and Cranes. The sun and clouds going across are done in gold threads woven works. The background of Fukusa is sort of golden color silk. The condition of Fukusa is very good , other than wear on the top edge where the edge silk is little deterioration. Some age stains as photo showing lower center below Okina and left area, but not significant.There is a couple of outside thread spots worn out. This thread is called Shitsuke Ito (basting thread) which usually remove when you use Fukusa. This will make great wall decoration. Actual piece is much prettier than my photos. Dating from late Meiji to Taisho, 1900-1920â€™s. Please note the texture of Okina\'s Kimono as well as other parts of design including shore wave are more embroiderd works type. It is hard to show in the photo.Please note Fukusa is perfectly square.
