Unique British School Folk Art Piece
This is a rudder from a rowing or crew shell that is painted to record the history of a race between Westminster School and Eton in 1924.
The beautiful painted lettering shows the list of the crew members, the date of the race, the Coat of Arms of Westminster School. Westminster School had one of the first rowing teams but by the 1920s it was a monumental day to beat the famous Eton School attended by boys of the royal family.
The rudder is displayed on a wood platform stand and is a great piece of folk art. The hand painted writing is beautiful and the paint is wonderfully alligatored from the years but still intact. The piece displays beautifully.
The great folk art historical piece measures 13\" tall on the stand and is about 18\" long. The flat piece of the rudder that is attached across the top makes a decorative tail giving the rudder the appearance of a whale.
