John Arthur Lomax was a genre painter, born in Manchester. He studied in Stuttgart and at the Munich Academy, but returned to Manchester and later relocated to London. His subjects were mainly historical genre of the 17th and 18th centuries, especially of the Civil War period, often with a dramatic or sentimental theme. Lomax exhibiterd thirty-three paintings at the Royal Society of British Artists and also exhibited at the Royal Society of Artists, Birmingham, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Manchester City Art Gallery, Royal Academy and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters.

Measures 29.5\" Wide x 21.5\" Tall x 1\" Thick
Original painting was created in the late 1800\'s with oils on canvas and appeared in the Illistrated London News in 1897.This is a print of that piece, however still old. Frame is solid wood with some nicks/chips due to age, but still structurally intact! Back chain seems to have broken, then repaired with hanging wire. Glass has no cracks or chips
