He was one of the few American Pewterers to have owned the molds necessary
to make such a complex piece
andhe was also more style-conscious than most of his more conservative contemporaries.
It is believed that Flagons were used in the 17th century for domestic purposes,
possibly for carrying cider or beer from barrels in the storeroom to the dining table.
By the 18th century, however, their use was limited almost exclusively to churches
