Description
I just purchased this antique French Gilt Ormolu Desk Set from a local estate here in Central Virginia. The three piece set consists of an inkwell / pen rest and two matching candleholders. The set has a striking ornamental design in the Belle Epoque style of the later 19th century with figural accents to the reticulated panels. The highly detailed casting is finished in gilt / ormolu which shows a warm patina consistent over the three pieces (there are a few small spots of vintage oxidation). The inkwell measures 6 3/8\" square and 5 ¼\" high, the candles are 5 1/8\" square and 8 ¾\" high. All three pieces are in excellent condition with no damage. The inkwell retains its glass insert, I\'m not sure if it was original to the piece but it fits and appears so. This handsome figural set would make a fine addition to any collection of antique Desk / Writing accessories or later 19th century French / Continental decorative arts.
