A fine looking Antique French slate mantel clock with 8-day striking movement by Samuel Marti,surmounted by a very detailed, heroic spelter figure of a Knight on horseback drawing his sword in readiness for battle. The sculpture itself is in lovely condition with exceptional detail.The Knight\'s face in particular, is very well studied. The figure is complete with no broken parts or fractures.
Measuring 12\" wide by 16 1/2\" high by 6\" deepand weighing 11.5kg in total.
The slate case which hasgreen malachite inserts surrounded by gild scrolledengraving,is in fine polished condition with just a few nibbles. It houses the 8-day movement which strikes on the hour and half hour via a bell. The movement with outside count wheel, has been thoroughly cleaned, re-oiled and is fully working. It has the S. Marti stamp on the rear plate.
Glass door to front and back. Both have bevel edged glasswith some light scratches. both doors open and close with ease.
The black enamel dial face is in nice condition and bears the inscription: Lajot and Liege. There is a fine adjuster located at twelve o\'clock.
Clock comes with pendulum and double-ended key. The pendulum is not original to the clock, but it is of the same period.
Given the delicate nature of this clock and the heavy weight,I would prefer collection in person if only to reduce the risk of possible damage through the postal services. Having said that, I am prepared to send by courier, butI will not accept any responsibility in the event of damage beyond my control. This clock will be sent in a wooden box for added protection which will be reflected in the postal costs.
