A Georgian solid silver coin purse or sovereign purse. The purse with the solid silver mounting and the knotted silver thread net is in very good condition. The silk lining has disintegrated. The mounting is marked for the silversmiths Lea & Clarke. They were operating around 1824. There is no date letter. There is a Georgian duty paid mark and a sterling silver mark.

The requirements for silver marking at this time appear to have been much less strict for any items that could be classed as jewellery and purses seem to have fallen into that group. This is by the standard of the period a very well marked purse.
