GODEY\'S LADY\'S BOOK, published by Louis Godey. Full year (January to December) 1862. One thousand two hundred thirty five pages. First edition.Dark brown leather boards have separated from book but are still in good condition. Four-barred spine with gilt lettering and decoration. Spine is tight.The book is printed on good quality paper and the pages are generally clean and unmarked. Very little foxing and no notations or egregious smudges. The book contains stories, articles, recipes, sewing and crocheting patterns, poems, music, and of of course, numerous fashion illustrations. There are scores of wonderful black and white fashion engravings of dresses, hats, hairstyles, children\'s clothing and more. Some of the full page illustrations for hand-work are in full color.For larger close-ups, after you have brought up the group of photos, click in the center of any photo for an even bigger picture.There are six full-color fold-out plates with the deep, rich tones that come from fine hand-coloring. I have included two close-up pictures to show the quality of the coloring. A few have some light foxing, mostly around the edges, but over all they are in excellent condition for being 152 years old and probably enjoyed by generations of fashion-hungry women beginning in the days of the Civil War!
