The noted Southwest photographer Ben Wittick’s portrait ofthe Navajo couple, Gayetenito and his Squaw Malia is a rare replica of theNative American Sub-Chief (to Manuelito) and his wife that was originally takenbetween the years of 1880-1890. Born in Pennsylvania in 1845, Wittick headedWest in 1878 and began his photographic history of the Southwest and its NativeAmerican people.

This 14\" x 25\" total framed size print with its 11\" x 14\" viewing area originates from the Old West Collector’s Series and showcases theNavajo Sub-Chief and wife Malia. He holds a Long Gun, and is dressed inleggings, with his ammunition and concho belt. Both have blankets and arewearing beads, and Malia is holding a pottery vessel. The photographer’s name Wittick is printed on the bottom right hand side.

The Frame is Hand-crafted from nature, this piece embodies the American Indian tribes\' reverence and respect for their surroundings, and their strive to use all viable parts of the animals and vegetation that surrounds them.
