Up for offer is a General Gordon Large character jug (D6869) . This large jug is 7.25 inches tall. It was commissioned in 1991 by UKI Ceramics in a special edition of 1500 . One of the Great Generals Series. Designed by William K.Harper and modeled and hand painted in the Royal Doulton factory in England. The handle is formed by a camel\'s head and neck with Khartoum ensign.
Charles George Gordon (1833 - 1885) was known as \"Chinese Gordon\" after he commanded the Chinese forces against Taiping rebels in 1863. As Governor-General of the Sudan he was instrumentalin closing down the slave trade. In 1884 he was ordered to rescue the Egyptian garrison at Khartoum.He was besieged in Khartoum and killed.Shipping is based on actual weight and measurement of package and destination zip code.
