Here is an excellent well worn 19thcentury history book entitled ?General Taylor andHis Staff: Comprising Memoirs of Generals Taylor, Worth, Wood, and Butler:Colonels May, Cross, Clay, Hardin, Yell, Hays, and Other ... With NumerousAnecdotes of the Mexican War?With accurate portraits and other beautifulillustrations.? This book waspublished in 1848 by Grigg Elliot & Co. of Philadelphia. It is likely the first edition. There are 284 numberedpages that are generally clean however there is foxing along the edges of pagesthroughout especially near the illustrations. Foxing is most evident in theearly pages and on the many end pages advertising other books. This hard coverbook is in fair to good condition with a nice eagle decoration on the cover butthe lettering on the spine is missing and there is a piece also missing at thebottom. All pages are present. Thebinding is firm despite the spine issues but the corners are worn and pages areirregular. This wonderful historical account measures about 7 1/2 by 5 inches.There is no previous owner?s name in this book from a smoke free home howeverthere is a small bookstore label on a blank end page.
