GenuineRare Antique Native American baby/Child Leather Moccasin Shoes Lovely pair oflittle shoes that were mine as a baby (1970s).

The shoes were given to mymother by my grandfather Professor Trevor Thomas who worked in America as anArt Historian/ Professor for several years.

I believe he was in America from1939-1940 & 1956- 1960 & was based in Buffalo New York but alsotravelled & worked in various parts of America including Texas & withmany native American groups as he worked within art history & education.

Although I do not know which tribe the shoes came from, I have been told thatthey were given to him as a present & that my mother can recall himspeaking a lot about the Navajo tribe.

I have found out that Apache tribemoccasins were often curled at the toe to protect from cactus spikes (which mayor may not be relevant as these have a slightly curled toe which could also bedue to age) but are definitely pointed.

If you google my grandfathers name youmay be able to find out more than I know, but this is the best that I coulddate & find an origin for the shoes by as they would have been given to himat some point during this time.

The moccasins are in used condition & Ibelieve they were already used before they were given to my mother as she saysI only wore them a few times as she wanted to keep them.

They are leather(white upper with brown base.

They are stitched with a rudimentary thread,almost like a string & have stitched detail throughout including a stitchedeffect made to look like beads down the front middle.

They each have a red/white & blue pom pom on the end of the toe which is in a pointed style. Thepom pom is coarse, not sure what is made of but it has held its colour.

The moccasinsare beautifully made, and considering how old they are, they are strong &yet the inside of the sole is soft.

They are obviously an antique item so inused condition with wear to the sole including a small hole on the sole of theleft shoe.

Other than this there are no rips or tares & they are really inneed of some tlc.

Although they have great sentimental value for me, I amselling them as I would love to see them go to someone that could restore theleather or preserve them as best as possible & would rather they went to acollector who would appreciate them, than sitting in my wardrobe unused or notdisplayed.

I have attempted to clean them in any way as this would need to be doneby someone who knows what they are doing so they are being sold in of each shoe: width- 7cm, length- 18cm, height- 4cm.
