Circa late 1870s to early 1880s CDV photo (not from life) of George A. Smith (1817 - 1875), who was an early leader in the Latter Day Saint movement and served in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and as a member of the First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Smith played a prominent role in the chain of events preceding the Mountain Meadows Massacre on September 11, 1857. The city of St. George, Utah, is named after him (from Wikipedia). Photographer is A. Whissemore out of Mansfield, Ohio. Interestingly, the early Mormon colony passed right through Mansfield Square in 1838 as they left Kirkland, Ohio (where they built their first temple in 1836) and headed for Missouri.

This image came with a recently acquired lot of early Mormon CDV photos. I will be saleing other Mormon CDVs in the coming days. Please also see my CDV of Joseph Smith III that is currently up for sale.
