AuthorHenry Groves Connor(1852 – 1924) was aNorth Carolinapolitician and jurist, and aUnited States federal judge. He was a participant in the 1898 North Carolina\"White Supremacy\" campaign which culminated in theWilmington insurrection of 1898. As described in theofficial state report on the race riots, which lasted several days, \"Connor’s correspondence and speeches repeatedly indicated that he was \'willing to go a very long way to remove the negro from the politics of the state\' ...\"

Appointed by Jefferson Davis in December, 1863, George Davis, a relative of the president, was the last attorney general of the Confederate States of America. He was captured by United States forces at Key West, Florida in October, 1865 & subsequently imprisoned at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn, New York. Pardoned after several months, he returned to the practice of law in Wilmington, North Carolina.
