The dish and cover each have twohand engravedarmorials which arefine and matching, the dish cover also has a lion crest over a crown and a second marriage motto.

Of good weight, the sterling silver serving plate has a scratch weight of 120 troy ounces and measures – length 52 cms, width 40 cms.

London 1819.

Maker Joseph AngellVery interesting marriage armorial - crests read \"Ich Dien - Tria Juncta in Uno\", \"Fidelle a Mon Roi\" see explanation below.

Literature: On the left is the coat of arms of Lt Gen Sir Miles Nightingall, KCB of Brome Hall, Norfolk (1768-1829). It is surrounded by the motto of the Order of the Bath (Tria Juncta In Uno), the motto for the Order’s Military Division (Ich dien) with the Order’s star below it. On the right are the impaled arms for Nightingall and Darell. His wife’s father was Sir Lionel Darell, 1st Baronet of Richmond Hill. NB: Sir Miles wife, known as Lady Nightingall, was Florentia Elizabeth Nightingall, not to be confused with Florence Nightingale. Information courtesy of nobilityhouse.

Condition: This handsome serving dish is in very good condition with no repairs or restoration.

The sterling silver platter has a full set of clear English silver hallmarks. The borders are crisp and expertly executed. The armorials are sharp and unusually detailed. The dish cover and the warming base, though made of Old Sheffield plate. are completely matching and original to the sterling silver platter. All pieces fit well together and the platter and dish cover have matching borders and armorials. Normally a large venison dish such as this would be entirely made of Georgian plate and it is a mark of superior quality that the carving plate has been made of sterling silver. Please note that this item is not new and will show moderate signs of wear commensurate with age. Reflections in the photograph may detract from the true representation of this item.
