Georgian Oak Antique Longcase Grandfather Clock C1820 - Rare Masonic stamp:
$1097.86

A Georgian, antique Oak Longcase Clock by the documented maker S. Carman of Harleston (Norfolk), in good and full working order, and dating to around 1820-1830.

The caseis in good all round condition and appears to have been fully restored at some time, the long domed shaped door with a moulded edge, original hinges, and working lock and key behind the brass key escutcheon. The base is of simple form, and the clock stands on a shaped plinth at just 86 1/2 inches inches in total overall height to the top of the central finial.

The hood with an elaborate fretwork Swan neck pediment, the horns rising up towards the center and being finished with gilded paterae. The hood is surmounted by its set of three turned and gilded finials, and with red silk (or similar) behind the fretwork to give a nice effect. The glazed hood door retains its original old glass and brass handle, and the door is flanked by turned pillars with Brass capitals to each side. The clock also retains its original backboard.

The period two, painted archeddial is in lovely clean condition, the four corners having floral and patterned scenes, with a lovely scene of two birds amongst flora to the top arch. The hours are represented by bold elaborate Numerals, with an outer minute ring, the centre of the dial with the fully working seconds dial and 31 day calendar aperture above the makers signature. The dial is finished with its full set of hands.

The good quality rack and snail striking,8 day durationmovement is in original condition, and good working order, chiming out the hours on a single bell. The dial movement and case are all original to each other, and the movement is very unusual, having a stamp of the compass and set square (masonic?), along with a makers name (hard to make out the name?) to the front of the hour snail. As with all antique clocks it would of course benefit from a clean and service at some time in the future, but theclock is currently set up andkeepinggood time, working and chiming, and is supplied with its old pendulum and pair of weights, along with a later key to wind the clock up.

Dimensions - 86 1/2 inches high (top of finial), 82 1/2 inches high (without finials), 19 1/4 inches wide at the widest part of the hood

Faults; there are a couple of minor nicks etc here and there but nothing of note, the dial has been touched in over the years, overall good condition though.

Overall a nice Georgian Oak longcase clock ingood working order, ready to go straight into your home.
