A leaf from a fragment of an illuminated Mughal Koran, copied by Muhammad ‘Arif al-Haravi, known as \"the second Yaqut\", India, 18th century, on paper (225 x 140 mm.). There are fifteen lines of clear naskhi script to the page, interlinear gilt decoration throughout, gold discs between verses, margins ruled in colors and gold, sura headings in red, catchwords, outer borders decorated with floral sprays in gold.Mohammad ‘Arif was a naskh and thuluth scribe, who received the title Yaqut Raqamkhan from the Shah ‘Alam I (AH1119-24/AD 1707-12) (see M. Hadayat Husain (ed.) Ghulam Muhammad Dihlavi, The Tadhkira-l-Khushnavisan, Calcutta, 1910 p. 126).On the opening page, there is a library note stating that the manuscript was bought and handed over to Hafiz ‘Adb al-Rahman, the keeper of the library in 15th Jumadi l, AH [11]33/14 March AD 1721.versofifteen lines of clear naskhi script to the page, interlinear gilt decoration throughout, gold discs between verses, margins ruled in colors and gold, sura headings in red, catchwords, outer borders decorated with floral sprays in gold.
