A Great Antique Late 18th Century Colonial Era Rushlight Candleholder- Three Day sale - !

Excellent condition on this great early piece of lighting, just as seen in Fire and Light in the Home Pre-1820 (Caspall), Early American Antique Country Furnishings (Nuemann), Antique Iron (Schiffer) and other books referencing metalware and lighting devices of 18th century America.

Rushlights were used to hold rush reeds soaking in grease or oil (like cat-tail reeds) which burned for illumination. This piece also has a rounded candle socket on the piece allowing it to use wax or tallow candles as well.

Stands approx. 12 7/8" tall. A great display size!
