Gustavus H. Scott (1812-1882) was a naval officer in theSecond Seminole War and the Civil War. AVirginian, Scott nevertheless remained loyal to the Union. He captained several ships in the BlockadingSquadron during the Civil War. This is aone page Letter Signed, 4to., U.S.S. John Adams, off Morris Island, S.C.,January 14, 1865, to Commander G. B. Balch, Senior Officer Outside Blockade,warning that a Confederate gunboat named Syren was going to attempt to run theblockade out of Charleston, “and it is hoped will be captured,” signed G. H.Scott, Capt. & Senior Officer off Charleston. One month later he was the senior officerpresent at the surrender of Charleston.Fine condition, with interesting blockading content.
