ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED IN 1887, THIS BOOK WAS PRINTED BY THE PRESS OF MORNINGSIDE BOOKSHOP, DAYTON, OHIO, IN 1999
Originally published in 1887, this is the extraordinary account of the experiences, history, battles and campaigns of the Second Tennessee Confederate Cavalry. It also contains 1st and 7th Battalions as well as rich portraits and biographical sketches of the key leaders of the unit.
Twenty years after Hancock\'s diary was written it was revised and supplemented with information gained from the writer\'s comrades and from official documents. This book captures comprehensively captures all the battle and campaigns of this extraordinary, hard-fought unit. It is perhaps the finest source of information related to the specific routes, with incidental observations on the country and occasional references to people visited, that exists. Hancock\'s wartime travels were confined entirely to northern Alabama and Mississippi, Tennessee, and southEastern Kentucky. Much of the time he was following General Forrest and, notably, he was present at the so-called Fort Pillow massacre, presenting, a scarce, first-hand view of the campaign. Hancock was wounded in October 1864 and as unable to fight after that, but his extraordinary, Civil War account remains one of the finest available on Confederate cavalry in the western theater dominated by General Nathan Bedford Forrest.
