Henri Ardant & Co. HA Cie Old Paris LIMOGES Black Porcelain Chinoiserie Vases ~ Henry Ardant (1828-1883) was a manufacturer of Limoges porcelain and partner with Pierre Poncet from 1854 at the former royal factory. This wonderful pair has squared, tapering forms, with flared necks and very interesting chinoiserie handles. They have a black, slightly mottled matte finish. These are a more rare Pate-Sur-Pate design, white porcelain chinoiserie figures on celadon green, the other on a Sevres blue ground. These panels are trimmed in a stylized gilded bamboo decoration. Each bears a faint French \"HA & Cie\" impressed logo, and are also numbered 402. One also has a decorator\'s scribed mark that looks like a \"W\". These are antique, circa 1870\'s, and other examples have sold in Christies and Sotheby\'s. They measure 12\" tall, and 4 3/8\" square at the rim. One has a professionally restored rim. Shown here are several views of this repair, which includes interior and exterior repaint. One has a speck of overpaint in the body. I detect no other repairs or restoration. They have slight scuffs, and typical gold wear. The black matte finish is slightly mottled, but this appears original. They have small manufacturing imperfections, including, but not limited to slight firing cracks in the paneled design. This is a fairly thorough description of condition, as are the close-up images. These are a spectacular and rare pair, produced by a premiere French manufacturer!
