This is the 1879 pocket edition of Thompson\'s History ofLeicester, that’s 138 years old! His earlier works being “A HISTORY OFLEICESTER FROM THE TIME OF THE ROMANS TO THE BEGINNING OF THE NINETEENTHCENTURY”, and “AN ESSAY ON ENGLISH MUNICIPAL HISTORY”. Thompson inherited the Leicester Chronicle from his father and wrote most of that papersleading articles reflecting the movement from Radicalism to Liberalism takingplace at the time. Together with William Kelly he was largely responsible forsaving the Old Town Hall together with the Corporation records for posterity.
