This is an AWESOME piece of art. Made in France between 1890 and 1910 where the mastery of glass flower design and execution originated! And this piece is no exception of beadword mastery. This is made from thousands of glass beads, strung on fine wires and shaped into the leaves, flowers and borders. The entire thing is then mounted on a heavy wire frame and all exposed metal and wire is wrapped in purple thread.

This piece hungin my garden room on agreen wallfor 15 years. Everyone who saw it remarked on the beauty and uniqueness of it. But when I showed them the close up and the intricate bead work, no one could believe anyone EVER took that much time to create such a thing.

The gradation work is nicely done with the flowers being Calla Lilies gradating from white to lavendar to purple with dark purple caylxs. The leaves are Caladium shaped in white, light green, and dark green. There are many smaller green leaves gracing the piece; and then what I found particulary unique was the attention paid to the border and overall shape of the piece. It has a diamond shape with scalloped edges and lots of interesting design work around the edges, including the dual layer of tightly wrapped beads that appear to be almost braided at the very edge.

This was a highly sought afterskill in the Victorian era, and highly skilled women took months to make these and sell them to mourners to place at the grave or mausoleum of their dearly departed. Sales were especially good in the winter months, as there were no fresh flowers available.

This piece is substantial measuring 44\" tall x 33\" wide x 10\" deep. Due to its size and weight, it will be professionally packed and shipped by UPS, therefore taking longer to arrive than the postal service. The $60.00 is a flat fee applicable to USA only. It will cost more to ship internationally and other shipping arrangements will have to be made.

For cleaning this piece, I recommend buying canned air (the kind sold to clean keyboards and electronics). It does a fine job keeping household dust from accumulating on it.
