This sale is for a fine Sterling Silver Christening Mughallmarked in Chester in 1897. It is approximately 3” or 76mm high to the topof the body, 2” or 51mm across the top and 1.8” or 47mm across the foot. Itstands on a stepped foot and has a solid, cast silver handle, the body islavishly decorated with a flowing engraved pattern and there is a blankcartouche opposite the handle. Condition is good for its age, the silver iswell polished and virtually scratch free, there are no dents or splits and theinside surface is richly gilded, close examination shows slight pull markswhere the handle is attached and there are a couple of tiny surface blemishes.The hallmarks are good and read; maker G.N over R.H for George Nathan andRidley Hayes, Lion Passant for Sterling Silver, Sheaves for Chester AssayOffice and the date letter ‘O’ for 1897.
