A beautiful, hand carved African Senufo tribe Kpelie mask from the Ivory Coast. These decorative mid-century masks have become quite collectible and in my opinion this is an extra-fine example. I\'m sure someone out there knows the name of this artist. The skilled carving shows the individual adze marks and the entire mask has a great feeling about it in the use of volumes and lines, with a shiny \"patina\" that is no doubt the product of both the artist\'s workshop and several decades of display in western households.
Original tag from dealer: \"La Rose d’Ivoire...\" - appears to be from the 1940s - 50s. Wonderfully cared for with a few small bumps and scrapes.
