This is hand ground glass I make that fits Graflex Graflok 4x5 backs and late model metal Graflex 4x5 spring backs. This glass is smaller than standard 4x5 ground glass and only fits the 4x5 Graflok backs. I have standard 4x5 hand ground glass if you need that please see my other sales.When I decided to sell ground glass I had a coupleparametersthat were absolutely mandatory. First it had to be thin glasssimilar to what you find on view cameras not single strength glass found at thehardware store. Second the price had to be reasonable not over priced like somehand gg out there. Third it had to be better than the other ground glass on themarket. Otherwise what is the point? To do this I purchased every type of gg I could find. I made sure mygrind was better than the ones I purchased and you can be assured of the same. Igrind the surface of my glass more even than other hand gg suppliers I havetested them to make sure. Actually that wasn\'t hard to do and I was quite surprised by the uneven grind on several hand gg I purchased.
Ground glass is made from optical grade glass not cheap glass from a plate glass shop. This glass has a special thickness and is much thinner than standard glass that others supply. You can not buy this thin glass here in the USA it comes from Germany. You can see the thickness in the photo below of the ground glass you will receive. The glass on the bottom of the (second picture) is standard ground glass you would get from most other sources or regular soda lime glass single thickness. The middle piece of glass is stock vintage Graflex ground glass and the top sheet is the glass I am grinding. It is thinner than any other glass and as such very light. You might think it\'s weaker being so thin but in fact it has some flexibility that thicker glass does not have. The weight is approx half that of standard ground glass.
The grind is very fine on this glass and you will be very happy with it. It is a finer grind which produces a brighter screen than typical glass sold on the market.Thank you for taking a look.
