While not necessarily made in Liverpool the term is recognized by button collectors to cover all these transfer buttons due to the large numbers made there in the latter half of the 19th century. Due to the fragility of the porcelain and the transfer the buttons are becoming more and more scarce. The button is a transfer of a bust/sculpture/portrait of a Greek man with a soft, likely leather, helmet covering his head. Curls and a beard frame his face. It is highly detailed. The button is highly domed in opaque snow white porcelain. The bust is framed with a painted black circle/line. It measures 3/4 inch in diameter. The dome measures 5/16ths inch top to bottom excluding the loop shank. The button is in excellent condition. It is an eye-catching button.
