Beautiful one page typed letter signed on \'The White House\' \'Washington\' stationary dated February 20, 1950.
Letter is written to Mr. J. K. Brelsford of Topeka, Kansas. In the letter, Harry Truman references the former Press Secretary Jonathan Daniels and displays his famous wit and humor (\"I have thought about you often and I\'ve labored under the delusion that I had succeeded making a good Democrat out of you, but apparently I failed\") mixed with nostalgic reminisces about \"pleasant times before the first world war\".
Includes \'The White House\' post-marked stamped mailing envelope.
Regarding background: I bought this from Dr. John Davis (Topeka, KS) in 1988. Dr. Davis was a huge collector of autographs...thousands and thousands. I was starting my collection back in that era and l lived in Kansas City. I visited Dr. Davis and he parted with this Harry Truman letter (primarily because he had many others). One story I remember he told was (I believe) back in the 1940s he met this young man on an elevator who was a junior assistant to some \'no-name\' football program. Regardless, Dr. Davis asked for his autograph...and wouldn\'t you know 15-20 years later this assistant made a name for himself...Vince Lombardi. Funny how I remember this nearly 30 years later.
There is no COA for this Truman letter...it doesn\'t need one (and if I got one...we\'d add $250 to the sales price). It is typed on White House stationary and includes a postmarked envelope. This was the era before auto-pens and Harry would not let a secretary forge his name on a letter to a good friend. If you don\'t believe this is the real deal...then move on. Give em hell!
