This is a listing for a vintage circa 1936 Navajo ring hand wrought from strong gauged sterling silver and natural Arizona turquoise. It was given to the original owner in the year 1936 as a graduation gift, along with a cuff I also have listed. The woman\'s neighbor owned a copper mine in Arizona and the turquoise used for this ring came from that mine.
Hallmark: None, as would be expected. I did test the silver and it tested as sterling.
Dimensions: Size 8.25. Oval shape with silver drop accents. Face of ring measures 1.75 inches in length and is approximately 1 inch across. Stone has a domed cut that is .25 inches thick and the ring weighs a substantial 15 grams.
Condition and Style: This is a rare piece for several reasons. One, it has an excellent provenance, so you know exactly how old it is. And secondly, the turquoise stone is truly superb. It\'s extremely high grade, of true gem quality, very hard..actually some of the hardest naturalturquoise I have seen.. with a wonderful natural polish and absolutely no damage, cracks, chips or crumbling matrix of any kind. I believe it must be from the Kingman mine. This is a mine that produced turquoise from prehistoric times, with modern mining beginning in the late 1800\'s. It has mainly produced turquoise of various shades of gorgeous blue, but also some stones with green shading. This stone has a warm rich green color with a complex coppery orange and brown matrix. The colors swirl together, giving the turquoise a jade like quality. It\'struly rare in quality and the stone was obviously chosen as an important gift. The cut is also extraordinary, extra thick with a graceful shape…cut by an artist who was a master at bringing out the beauty of the turquoise. The artist mounted the turquoise in a smooth straight bezel and kept the accents streamlined and simple. An extremely fine twisted wire surrounds the mounting, adding a strong note of refinement. And three perfectly shaped hand poured tiny drops of silver embellish the top and bottom of the stone. It\'s a simple presentation that enhances an already stunning stone.
The age, quality of workmanship, and beauty of the turquoise all combine to make this an important piece for anyone\'s collection. A ring to be proud of. Thank you forlooking.
