A piece of design history!Here is your chance to own a very early Eames RAR. For the mid century nerd/collector (like me): this features the coveted \"rope edge\" zenith plastics shell; includes an early Herman Miller/Venice, CA label; and comes on the ORIGINAL base. [Note: The black screws may or may not be original. They are a different metal finish than the wires, but are consistent with other styles of bases issued during the same era. Search here or on live saleeers for vintage RAR rockers for comparison.]For the uninitiated: the shell on this chair comes from the earliest plastics producer who made these revolutionary fiberglass shells for Charles and Ray Eames, a company named zenith plastics. The earliest models of these shells, produced for just a few years in the late 1940 and early 1950s, were formed around a rope, leaving a trace of the rope around the edge of the chair. In subsequent production, they perfected a molding technique without the rope, and these early models quickly disappeared. The rocker base base was only made commercially available in the earliest years, and was given as a gift to Herman Miller employees who had a baby through the 1980s: a perfect way to rock your newborn to sleep in style. This chair is in excellent vintage condition, with just a little patina and wear in the legs and metal frame. Along with the Eames lounge chair (which I also have for sale in my shop), this is THE icon of midcentury modern design, and no collection is complete without it.
