Presented tonight is this exquisite vintage Hopi Kachinadoll, depicting Payik\' Ala, the 3 Horn Kachina. He is seen in groups during theMixed Kachina dances. He is said to be a recent import from Zuni, probably justbefore the Great Split at Oraibi, in 1906. This fantastic doll stands 16 and ahalf inches tall, and is carved by the late Aaron Poseyesva, a prolific carver,who style was always based on the traditional tihus given to young girls duringceremonial dances. Aaron, who passed away in 2006, was an active carver forover 50 years, and his work was shown in literally dozens of galleriesthroughout the west and southwest. This excellent example displays beautifullyand would be a great addition to any Kachina doll collection.
