Here from a local estate are these wonderful horse head w/ horseshoe bookends. These are cast metal and very heavy. I have shown a typical peanut butter jar for size comparison. The bookends are cast metal with a brass-bronze plating which has a darkened patina from many years. There are some small wear areas to the plating and patina from years of use, but that adds to their character and vintage western look that make for a great decorative item for use in the home. I guess they could be repainted also, if you wish a newer look to your decor.
