Although ‘Field Guide’ is in its title, this nicely done hardcopy can be better described as a history of the late-war MITSUBISHI A7M REPPU (SAM) and its Mitsubishi evolution to include Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) carrier aviation as well as its projected American and British opponents. This pictorial is very well-done with extensive, large-format color profiles, fold-out plans, color illustrations of the REPPU in action, photographs of Japanese aircraft that survived the war such as the MITSUBISHI SHUSUI rocket fighter, black and white period photographs, and much, much more. See the accompanying scans to get a better idea of the quality and range of this exceptional book. Text is in Japanese but here’s a prime example of ‘a picture being worth a thousand words\'. The history of the ZERO\'s replacement is relatively unknown; here\'s a great chance to get more details on not only the REPPU but the other Japanese aircraft \'in the works\' during the last stages of World War II.
