The lengthy sale of land from Charles Carroll of Carrollton is to a Mr. Richard Benson Junior of Ann Arundle (sic) County in Maryland. The deed is between Charles Carroll of Carrollton, Daniel Carroll of Duddington, Christopher Johnston (joint owners of the land in question) and Richard Benson, Jr. DANIEL CARROLL OF DUDDINGTON WAS A LANDOWNER AND BUSINESSMAN, MAINLY IN WASHINGTON, DC, WHOSE PROPERTY INCLUDED MUCH OF WHAT WOULD BECOME CAPITOL HILL! In fact, his house was torn down in the middle of the night by the crew of Pierre L\'Enfant to make way for New Jersey Ave SE.

DATED IN THE CAPITOL CITY OF WASHINGTON, DC IN THE YEAR THE BRITISH SEIZED THE CITY DURING THE WAR OF 1812!
